Yule, the winter solstice, marks the shortest day and longest night of the year — a beautiful pause where we honor the cycle of endings and beginnings. It’s a time to celebrate the return of the Sun as days slowly grow longer, finally.
This year will be our first year in our home hosting a new dinner tradition. We sourced some locally made, freshly milled gluten-free sourdough loaves — which we’ll be making bread bowls out of! I’m planning to make a dairy-free broccoli cheddar-style soup to go with it! Our dinner will be by candlelight, to honor the beauty that light brings in all of its mediums.
Since moving to North Carolina in 2022, we’ve been focusing on living more in tune with the wheel of the year. Creating traditions that flow in tune with nature around us just makes more sense than going with the typical cycle of American consumerism. For Yule and its surrounding season, we focus on crafting, art, reading, and connection with friends.
I’ve found that living like this helps me also honor the seasons within myself. I don’t have the same expectations for my energy levels in the winter as I do in the summer. Look at yourself the same way you look at the trees in the dead of winter; you’re not upset with them for being without their leaves — that’s just the way it is.
I’ll be sharing a Yule ritual at the bottom of this newsletter, just for members of the Inner Circle. Along with the community tarot reading, you’ll find some spellwork inspiration to ignite a change in mindset and a call to cultivate what you want to see more of for the coming warmer month

Mars retrograde check-in
Are you feeling a little more exhausted than usual? Maybe you’re feeling like both ends of the candle are burning out. It’s expected for this time of year, especially during this transit. Like I said when this transit just began, Mars retrograde will bring many things to light that you didn’t even know needed to be illuminated.
Mars began its retrograde movement in our sky on December 6th, and it’ll continue to do so until February 23rd. Remember, you want to move through this transit with emotional protection. Be cautious of overreacting or assuming. If you push through this transit and ignore the red flags of burnout, overstimulation, and stress — you’re setting yourself up for a meltdown. Plus, not slowing down enough to read the message the universe is trying to give you only harms you in the long run.
If you’re noticing patterns that are triggering you either emotionally or physically, get curious about the why. You’re not feeling this way from mere coincidence. A big indication of where you might feel these stressors lies in your birth chart. By doing so, you’ll be able to see exactly where this transit is hitting. Depending on where you have the house of Leo and Cancer, you’ll find the most setbacks and challenges. Plus, pay attention to the house of Aquarius since it’s in opposition with Mars. This indicates some areas of struggle or setbacks. If this all seems a bit overwhelming, I’d be happy to help with a natal birth chart reading if you’re feeling curious.
Through most of the transit, you’ll notice certain delays, conflicts, and misunderstandings that feel out of left field. Try to move around these hiccups with as much grace as you can. Make sure you’re checking in on your boundaries, and make sure you’re finding a happy medium. There’s a balance that’s looking to be found, and it takes time to do so. Don’t be too hard on yourself if it feels like “nothing is going right” in a particular area of life. This feeling will pass, and hopefully, toward the end of this transit, you’ll have a new perspective.
Don’t forget to dig into the shadow side of things. Patterns of generational trauma have a way of popping up around the holiday season, and during this transit especially. It’ll be no surprise if this week is a little tougher than you anticipated. If you notice outdated expectations popping up, look into it. Like I said, things aren’t coming up for no reason, they’re being illuminated because they’re requiring attention. Especially if you don’t resonate with the pressure you’re putting on yourself, take it as a sign to examine where it even comes from in the first place.
Now that Mars has been retrograde for a few weeks, you’ll be able to have a baseline to compare from now (while it’s in Leo) to January 6th (when it enters Cancer). 💚 Weekly favs
On repeat 🎵 Lots of piano and cozy sounds have been flowing through the house lately. We’ve been leaning into the holiday spirit this week, so this cozy instrumental playlist has been our vibe.
Meal prep 🥑 If you’re in the Asheville area and you’re looking to support a local bread maker, look no further than Urban Peasants. This is seriously some of the best gluten-free bread I’ve ever had the pleasure of having and has become a staple in our home. Everything Flavio makes is so good and would make a perfect treat for the gluten-free or health-conscious person in your life.
Herb highlight 🌿 This blend from Asheville Tea Company is my night-time jam. It has everything I want from a sleepy tea, including a floral and almost sweet taste. It won’t knock you out like valerian, but also, it actually tastes good and does a fabulous job of calming your mind.
On my nightstand 📚 I’m almost done with Financial Sorcery by Jason Miller. It’s useful for folks looking to reframe their relationship with money, and are looking for new ways to work with financial energy. Plus, it’s always interesting to find different deities to work with, especially around abundance. I’m finding it to be the perfect book to finish up as the new year starts.
